PRF Treatment for Hair Loss

What is Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) Hair Treatment?

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) Hair Treatment is a non-surgical, all natural, FDA cleared hair restoration treatment perfect for both men and men experience mild to moderate hair loss. PRF Hair Restoration works by stimulating and regenerating dormant hair follicles using your own growth factors and stem cells, while the ACell repairs at the follicle level. The Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) has proteins that regenerate the tissue and prime follicles for new hair growth. It’s ideal for male and female pattern hair loss, hypotrichosis (fine/reduced hairs) of the eyebrows or beard, and metabolic causes (due to iron deficiency and medication). There is no downtime, and the number of treatments may vary.

How Does Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) Work?

Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) therapy works using the body’s own natural healing powers to slow and help to reverse the aging process. It’s a revolutionary repair system that places growth factors in the exact location where we want the skin to repair and rejuvenate itself by working to increase your own collagen. The treatment involves harvesting platelets from the patient’s own blood in order to inject them into problem skin areas, starting with the extraction of a minimal amount of the patient’s blood. This is then placed in a centrifuge to spin down the blood, which separates the red blood cells from the platelet rich fibrin. Platelets contain a high content of “growth factors” – proteins that help to heal injured tissue or damaged skin. Upon re-injection the platelets release their growth factors which trigger surrounding cells to proliferate, in turn stimulating repair, increasing volume and rejuvenating the skin.

How Does PRF Differ from Traditional PRP?

Although there are some basic similarities between platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin, Platelet -Rich Fibrin stands out as a superior treatment option. They both require the same blood concentrate therapy concept, but PRF is 100% natural and unmodified, while PRP uses additives and chemicals in their vials. PRP requires more blood to be taken than PRF, and PRF is spun at a lower speed creating more tissue healing factors within PRF than is typically seen in PRP. In addition, the lower spin speed causes less trauma to the individual cells of the blood, allowing more stem cells to remain in the final PRF product.

What Can I Expect During a PRF Treatment?

First, we will consult with you to determine if you are a suitable candidate for this treatment. During the treatment we will use a topical analgesic to minimize the discomfort and draw a small amount of blood. Then we will spin it in our centrifuge to activate the fibrin and concentrate more growth factors, white blood cells, and stem cells while separating it from the other blood components which are not needed. The PRF is then withdrawn from the vials and injected into the area of hair loss requiring rejuvenation. The entire procedure takes XXX minutes to an hour to complete and there is no downtime!

What Type of Results Can I Expect?

The visibility of expected benefits and results of the PRF treatment is typically seen after six weeks from initial treatment. Long-term effects, such as XXX, may take up to three to four months to be noticed and can last from six to 12 months. Results can vary from person to person. For hair loss treatments, we typically recommend 4 monthly consecutive treatments followed by quarterly treatments to maintain the results. After a year, the treatment frequency can be reduced, based on the specific requirements of the patient.
